EasyPro Dual Filtration Pressurized Filters Operation Manual - Printable PDF Version

How does the EasyPro Pressure Filter work?

  • The pond filter is placed in-line between the pond pump and the waterfall.
  • Water enters the filter at an angle, creating a vortex inside the EasyPro pressure filter to settle out the solid debris.
  • Water is forced down through three layers of special density foam pads. Because the water is pressurized the foam can fill with many more beneficial bacteria without becoming blocked. It is this larger number of bacteria taking pollutants out of the water that make pressure filters so effective.
  • The water then passes through the plastic biomedia where more beneficial bacteria cleans the pollutants.
  • The UV light is then used on the passing water to kill free floating algae cells which cause green water.
  • As the foam layers in the pressure filter collect solids, the cleaning indicator on the lid will rise up. This signals that the foam layers need cleaning.

These filters take in dirty water from the pump and return sparkling clear water to your pond, minus the solids and green algae. The EasyPro pressure filter is ideal for pond keepers who want simplicity, clear water and an attractive, hidden filter system.

Pressure Filter Installation

Please read all instructions carefully and keep for future reference Safety and Electrical Connections

  • Always disconnect the electrical supply before starting to handle, maintain, repair or install any pond equipment.
  • This product is not submersible and it must be sited where it cannot fall into the water or become water logged. However, the design is weather resistant, and EasyPro filters can safely be installed outdoors.
  • Direct exposure to Ultra-Violet light can damage eyes and skin. Do not attempt to view the lamp when lit, except briefly through the viewing window.
  • Connect this product only to a receptacle protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. (GFCI)
  • Protect from the frost. If the pond is not going to run all winter, drain the filter and remove from the ground and store in a warm dry place.
  • All electrical work must be performed by a qualified technician. Always follow the National Electrical Code (NEC) or the Canadian Electrical Code as well as all local, state and provincial codes. Code questions should be directed to your local electrical inspector. Failure to follow electrical codes and OSHA safety standards may result in personal injury or equipment damage. Failure to follow manu- facturer’s installation instructions may result in electrical shock, fire hazard, personal injury or death, damaged equipment, provide unsatisfactory performance and may void manufacturer’s warranty.

Installation of the Pressure Filter

1. The ECF10U, ECF25U and the ECF40U come with the UV light already installed.

2. Position pump at the furthest point from the waterfall. Run the tubing out of the pond and bury or conceal the tubing.

3. It is recommended that the pump be housed in an EasyPro skimmer or in an EasyPro submersible pump protector.

4. Position the pressure filter anywhere around the pond. Since the discharge is under pressure, the filter can be located downhill from the waterfall.

5. Dig a hole big enough for the filter to sit in. Dig the hole deep enough so the retaining ring is left exposed out of the ground.

6. If installing a unit with clips, make sure the clips are left exposed out of the ground.

7. Recess the filter into the previously dug hole.

8. Connect the tubing from the pump to the black barbed fitting, which attaches to the intake, which is marked with an arrow pointing in.

9. Connect the tubing from the waterfall to the clear barbed fitting that is then attached to the dis- charge, which is marked with an arrow pointing out.

10. Run the tubing to the waterfall and bury the tubing for the best look.

11. If the pressure filter unit is equipped with a UV light make sure it is properly plugged into a GFCI protected outlet.

12. Back fill around the pressure filter. Conceal your pressure filter and tubing with your choice of landscaping.

Lamp Replacement

1. Make sure the unit is disconnected from the power source.

2. For the ECF10 (U) proceed to step three, then proceed to step five and continue. For the ECF25 (U) and ECF40 (U) proceed to step four, then proceed.

3. Loosen the screws on the top retaining ring. Do not remove the screws - do not remove the retaining ring. Twist the UV housing and match the arrow on the UV cover with the arrow on the retaining ring. Gently pull up on the cord and cover in the back to loosen the UV cover. (see figure 1 and 9)

4. Loosen and remove the three screws on top of the UV cover. (see figure 2)

5. Remove the UV cover and set aside. (see figures 3 & 4)

6. Remove the two screws and the plastic retainer clip that hold the cord in place and set aside. (see figure 5)

7. Unscrew the UV light and carefully remove from the housing. (see figure 6)

8. Use a clean cloth to remove the UV light by gently pulling up on the UV bulb. (see figure 7)

9. Do not touch the bulb with your fingers.

10. Carefully remove the black protector on the end of the bulb. Install the black protector on the end of the new UV light bulb. (see figure 8)

11. Carefully install the new UV bulb in the base, be sure to use a clean cloth to install the new bulb. Press the bulb firmly into the base until you here a click. (see figure 7)

12. Carefully slide the new bulb into the sleeve and screw the cap into place.

13. Reattach the cord retainer clip with the two screws.

14. If you have an ECF25U or an ECF40U set the UV cover back on top of the pressure filter and tighten the three screws.

15. If you have an ECF10U make sure to line up the power cord in the back with the slot in the UV cover. Be sure to line up the two slots in the front of the UV cover with the two prongs behind the discharge connection. Push down on the UV cover and line up the arrow on the UV cover with the arrow on the retaining ring. (see figure 9)

16. Twist the UV housing back to desired position and tighten the screws down on the retaining ring.

UV Sleeve Replacement and Cleaning

1. Make sure the unit is disconnected from the power source.

2. Unscrew the barbed fittings from the inlet and outlet on the filter.

3. Loosen the screws on the top retaining ring. Remove the screws. The retaining ring should now be loose. (see figure 1)

4. Remove the UV cover and set aside. (see figure 3)

5. Remove the two screws and the plastic retainer clip that hold the cord in place and set aside. (see figure 5)

6. Unscrew the UV light and carefully remove from the hous- ing. (see figure 10)

7. Carefully set the UV bulb aside, being careful not to touch the UV bulb.

8. Gently pull straight up on the threaded connection in the middle and remove the UV housing. (see figure 11)

9. Be sure to pull straight up. Do not bend sideways as the UV sleeve is glass and can break.

10. Carefully remove the glass sleeve by pulling straight down. Glass is very fragile, use caution when removing and han- dling broken glass. Clean the glass sleeve with a clean damp cloth. (see figure 12)

11. Reinstall the black end piece on the end of the sleeve and carefully slide the UV cover back into place.

12. The UV sleeve will slide around a black ring and will only go in about 1/2".

13. Carefully place the UV housing and bulb back into the filter. (see figures 11 & 10)

14. Reattach the cord retainer clip with the two screws. (see figure 5)

15. Make sure to line up the power cord in the back with the slot in the UV cover. (see figures 3 & 9)

16. Install the UV light cover and screw down the retaining ring. (see figure 1)

17. Reattach the barbed fittings to the pressure filter.

Pressure Filter Cleaning

1. There is a cleaning indicator on the top of the filter. It will be green in normal operation. When the filter needs to be cleaned the indicator will turn to red. (see figures 14 & 15)

2. When this occurs, if the pressure filter is equipped with UV, disconnect the pump from the power source.

3. If the filter is a pressurized unit, the pressure must be released before removing the lid. This can be done by disconnecting the inlet and outlet hoses.

4. If your unit is an ECF10 or ECF10U, you will need to undo the four retaining clips. If your filter is an ECF25 (U) or ECF40 (U), you will need to release the tension ring. (see figures 16, 17 & 18)

5. Pull up on lid assembly and set aside. (see figure 19)

6. Remove the filter pads and rinse out with clean water.

7. If the filter pads are deteriorated, discard and replace with new pads.

8. See replacement parts chart for the correct size and part number for your pressure filter.

9. If there is excess build up in the bottom of the pressure filter, you can rinse it out but do not clean 100%. This is where the beneficial bacteria grow. (see figure 21)

10. Replace the filter pads and install the lid assembly and clamp down with retaining clips or tension ring. (see figures 16 & 18)

11. If for some reason the large o-ring comes off, it is best to put it back on the lid assembly instead of the filter bucket. (see figure 22)

12. Hook hoses back up, plug in the UV lamp and turn the pump back on.
